If life is full of surprises, if life is full of changes, if life is a continual mystic experience and if life is a continual recreation, then Vażett Dmugħ u Rakkonti Oħra by Joseph Falzon certainly embodies this traditional yet contemporary vision of life.

episodes are...all based on daily human experience- Bertram Portelli

In his book, Mr Falzon illustrates and gives meaning to the many facets of life by creating different situations, characterised by individuals who are themselves experiencing changes in their lives and who feel the need to have a heart-to heart with their partner.

The 13 different episodes are not merely stories, but are all based on daily human experience brought to life again by the author. Each episode, based on the Christian vision of respect, sincerity, forgiveness and love is food for thought and gives the reader an opportunity for self-reflection. The fitting title of this book can be compared to the tears shed by the protagonists of each episode – the young man who writes a letter to his fiancée, asking for forgiveness and for the chance to start afresh as well as the reply he receives from her expressesing similar sentiments. Each experience, depicting engaged/courting or married couples weighs heavily on the importance of family values and prayer and as Christ as the centre of our lives.

In Ħolma Stramba and L-Istorja tal-Mera one of the protagonists has a vision of the ideal Christian way of life while on an imaginary ethereal voyage.

In the very same way as the flower in L-Istorja tal-Fjuri reminds the protagonist that she should keep on loving, these experiences create an ambience where the reader reflects on the beauty of loving, especially when love towards others is intertwined with Jesus’ love.

Vażett Dmugħ not only promotes strong Christian values but also gives a clear depiction of the revolting effects of vices. Mr Falzon gives voice to the protagonists in each episode with his own biblical thoughts and reflections.

In the same way as the author of Vażett Dmugħ I state: “When you read this book, give yourself some time to think about being less self-centred and to love more.”
