Lecturers at University of Malta and Junior College have given the government until today to come up with counterproposals on their collective agreement, having extended their original deadline by two days.

On Monday the Malta Union of Teachers and the University of Malta Academic Staff Association jointly declared a trade dispute over “the needless procrastination” in reaching an agreement.

A deadlock was reached after the unions submitted proposals on the financial package on April 23 but have since received no feedback.

They had given the government until yesterday but said they had been informed the counter offer would arrive by today.

They have now suspended the threat of industrial action but their new deadline for an “acceptable counter proposal” is today at 11am.
