For me the greatest contradictory piece of news that I ever heard was the Archbishop’s recent statement about the teaching of Islam in Catholic Church schools.
I still remember those turbulent years, when these schools were in danger of being closed down by a Labour administration; but that was years ago.
I also remember those heads of families who queued in the rain so that their sons and daughters would be educated in a Catholic school. Now we have an Archbishop who said he does not find any difficulty that these Church schools start teaching Islam.
Islam is a great religion and I respect it very much. I also believe that Islamist families have the right to teach their children this religion but I also believe that if they want this they can ask the wealthy Arab nations for funds.
The Archbishop and his advisers, here or abroad, should tell us to preserve our Christian values, at least what is left of them. As for State schools, I do not really care but I think that they should teach no religion at all.
My appeal to those who are responsible to take care of Christ’s Church is to not sow more confusion.
