Seven Gozitan taxi drivers filed a complaint in court against the operators of open-top buses selling tickets at Ċirkewwa, claiming it was illegal.

Michael Pace, Raymond Spiteri, Martin Cardona, Sammy Cutajar, Grazio Debono, Joe Muscat and Joe Pace filed a judicial protest in the Gozo courts against Transport Minister Joe Mizzi and Transport Malta chairman James Piscopo.

The taxi drivers said the transport authority had issued a legal notice last year, amending a previous one. The law stated that “services on sightseeing passenger transport routes shall not be sold on the road”. But tickets were being sold for the open-top buses at Ċirkewwa.

This practice was endangering their livelihood, they said. Lawyer Joseph Grech signed the protest.
