A 50-year-old man in financial difficulties yesterday admitted to breaking into a beautician’s salon and stealing some €230 worth of items.
Wearing white short shorts and a black T-shirt bearing the Armani mark, John Borg, of Birkirkara, said he was a taxi driver by profession and admitted to breaking into the shop last Friday evening.
Police Inspector Bernard Spiteri said Mr Borg had cooperated fully with the police during their investigations.
Magistrate Antonio Micallef Trigona noted that the criminal record indicated the accused had already been convicted of theft once before.
Defence lawyer Anġlu Farrugia informed the court his client had returned some of the items adding he came from a very good family and had found himself in some difficulties.
Magistrate Micallef Trigona placed Mr Borg on probation for three years and gave him six months to pay €200 for the damages caused to the shop.
