Goalkeepers Daniel Tanti (Luxol) and Marylyn Agius (Aloysians) won the best player awards during the Malta Handball Association Awards Night, held recently.

Louis Borg, MHA president, and Kunsill Malti għall-iSport official Berti Muscat presented trophies to the winners.

The top scorer accolades went to Peter Naudi, of Aloysians, who netted 41 goals, and La Salle’s Stephanie Desjardins who finished with an impressive 59 goals.

Denis Wittebrood, the MHA marketing manager, announced John Scicluna as the winner of the Eurosport photo competition for the best handball action shot of season 2011/12.

Meanwhile, Malta’s Under-18 and Under-16 women teams are taking part in the 40th edition of the Interamia World Cup which runs from today until Tuesday.

The matches are being played in Teramo and in a few other towns on the Adriatic coast.

The Under-18 team are playing against Furesoe HB (Denmark), Cnar Handball (Mexico), Groen-landia (Italy), Hillerod (Denmark) and Nevskaya Volna (Russia).

The U-16s have been drawn against Dicken Girls (Finland), Katarina Mostar (Bosnia), Kosaca (Bosnia), HBC St Laurent (France), HC Niki Sport (Bulgaria), Elita Lebbeke (Belgium), Furesoe HB (Denmark), FET HK ‘A’ (Norway), Lung Jing Jun (Taiwan) and HBC St Laurent ‘B’ (France).

Grima appointment

The European Handball Federation have selected Alan Grima as one of their delegates for the men’s U-18 European Championship to be played in Austria between July 12 and 22.

This appointment follows 14 other international assignments Grima had received from the EHF throughout the 2011/12 season.

At the U-18 finals, Croatia will be seeking to defend the title they won in Montenegro in 2010.
