I refer to the letter ‘Tallinja card system is a joke’ (The Sunday Times of Malta, August 2). We would like to clarify that the personalised Tallinja card offers different benefits, depending on the registered user.

This includes reduced fares and automatic capping on a daily, weekly or monthly basis, again depending on, for example, the date of birth of the card holder.

It is therefore understandable that the card is personalised for control purposes and to avoid the sharing of the card.

The card is available to anyone, including tourists who can register for it and have it delivered to any address, even if outside Malta. In fact, there have been many who have registered and benefited from this option.

Apart from the personalised Tallinja card, there are other transport cards available that can be bought over the counter and used immediately. These are the Explore Card and the 12 single day journeys card. Both are available at all our outlets, including Malta International Airport.

The company is currently working on extending the availability of these cards across the Maltese Islands in a similar way to the top-up vouchers that are already available in more than 500 outlets.
