The first of this year’s series of lectures organised by Wirt Għawdex was entitled ‘Waking the dead. Nineteenth-century obituaries as a mirror of Maltese social class’. In the lecture, Michael Refalo (right) spoke about impressively long and flowery obituaries of the time, giving examples of those written for well-known personalties, professionals and businessmen, interspersed with humourous anecdotes.
