As he has done for the past four years, charismatic U2 frontman Bono spent Christmas Eve with some of his famous friends busking around the streets of Dublin. Joining Glen Hansard, Damien Rice, Sinead O’Connor, Paddy Casey, Liam O’Maonlai and Lisa Hannigan, Bono was spotted in the city centre singing festive songs and collecting donations for charity.

But what, might you ask, is afoot in the U2 camp? Activity seems to be the answer, at least according to long-time band manager Paul McGuiness.

Asked by The Irish Independent if 2013 will be the year U2 finally come up with the follow-up to 2009’s No Line on the Horizon, McGuiness is said to have answered: “2012 has been very busy. There’s always activity, so certainly expect a new record.”

Meanwhile, the band has set up a dedicated page chronicling developments about the new album at www.atU2.com.

So far, the page features a collection of news, rumours, quotes and other information, among which is a quote attributed to Bono in which he says the album will be called Songs of Ascent, although this remains unconfirmed by official sources.
