Vaccination coverage for measles in Malta is 99 per cent, according to the health authorities.

The measles vaccine is available free of charge on the national schedule and is administered to children at 13 months and again at three to four years of age.

The health authorities issued a statement after being alerted by the World Health Organisation to the increasing number of measles cases in Europe, urging all countries to step up vaccination across age groups at risk. The largest number of cases was reported by Kyrgyzstan with 7,477 since May 2014.
