Mad Max is about to lose its status as one of the few cult films which hasn’t been given the videogame treatment. Officially revealed at E3 2013 on June 10 during a Sony press conference, the post-apocalyptic third-person open-world game is slated for release on Windows, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One in 2014. It is published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and developed by Avalanche Studios.

Following the theft of his V8 Interceptor by marauders, Max embarks on a perilous journey to reclaim his legendary vehicle. Max joins forces with Chumbucket, an idiot savant sidekick, and commandeers an all-new vehicle capable of heavy customisation – the Magnum Opus. Making, or rather, fighting his way towards his vehicle, Max will encounter friends and foes in the outback. Ultimately, Max’s quest is to find the Plains of Silence, a fabled land where he might find solace from his madness.

Open world vehicular warfare is a big part of the game but you also have the ability to go out on foot into the wastes. If you ever wanted a big and brutal Mad Max game, Avalanche look set to deliver fun on that front.

Not much is currently known about the game other than it will focus on vehicular combat. A gameplay trailer is available for viewing on the official website www.madmaxgame.com – the trailer gives a rough indication of the graphical quality and many aspects of play, however keep in mind that these trailers are most of the time staged and with nifty camera angles.

When the game was initially announced and previewed, many noticed that Max is portrayed with an American accent, rather than an Australian one as heard in the film series. Many fans including Australians protested against Max’s new American voice. However, it was later confirmed that the lead character would have an Australian accent and not an American as one originally reported and shown. Also, Mel Gibson, who played the role in the movies, will not reprise the role of Max for the game.
