During recent press conferences, the leaders of the two main political parties stated they were committed to finding a solution to the question of the Armier boathouses.

What solution is there to find?

What solution is there to reach? The people who built the ugly shacks committed an illegal act: they stole from us, the public. They flaunted the laws of the land. So what solution is there to find? Would the leaders “find a solution” for those who commit robbery? Is there a solution to find for acts of theft, or should the perpetrators be taken to court?

The only solution is for Mepa to order the shacks to be demolished, and the land be returned to its original state for us, the public to enjoy. Should they ignore the order, then the government – which represents us – should take the bull by the horn, demolish the buildings and send the bill to the illegal owners.

Both political leaders should then publicly apologise for condoning and conniving with the boathouse ‘owners’ by supplying them with services. If they don’t, it means there is no law enforcement on this island, and we should organise what the American pioneers used to do – a land rush – and claim our ‘plots’ wherever we like.

After all, what’s good for the goose is good for the gander.
