A drug addict who was caught on CCTV stealing computers was yesterday sentenced to three-and-a-half years in prison.

The CCTV footage of the tablet theft was uploaded to You Tube as part of an effort to track down the culprit.

Apart from the tablets, Nicholas Agius, 37, of Mosta, stole two biographies of the late former Prime Minister Dom Mintoff from a stationer and tried to sell them to another stationer opposite the same outlet.

Standing in the dock wearing a pair of shorts and a T-shirt, Mr Agius admitted to stealing four tablet computers from Compunet and Tabone Computers, Bose speakers from Doneo in Ħamrun and the books from a stationer in Mosta between July and Wednesday.

Mr Agius also admitted to committing the crime during the period of a suspended jail term and while on probation.

Magistrate Edwina Grima brought into force the suspended jail term and also sentenced Mr Agius to a year in prison over the latest spate of thefts.
