The once picturesque square of St Catald, in Rabat is today inundated with a large number of tables and chairs from the catering establishments situated there.

The situation has been worsening by the hour as more of these establishments encroach on public land at the expense of citizens and tourists alike.

Another catering establishment is setting up shop and the situation is most likely to deteriorate to a point where the public will no longer have access to this square.

I hope the situation is addressed immediately and the authority responsible for the issuing of permits keeps in mind that the public have a right to pass freely and enjoy this public space, which is today being taken over for the benefit of the few.
