Congratulations for getting a “mini” Guggenheim to showcase the huge art collection donated to Malta (Masterpieces To Be Permanently Displayed In Malta, April 23). The United Arab Emirates are also involved in building “flagship” museums to attract tourists.
I also refer to the article The Benefits Of Reading, Günter Grass said in an interview that it is the duty of an author to write about “taboo” subjects (that will stimulate the mind). Ġorġ Mallia ended his article as follows: “Pick up a book and relive times (he talks of the past) when our reality dimmed for a while to magic places (escape) lived through ‘stimulated’ imagination”.
The young prefer watching TV to reading because they have grown up with a screen giving them “canned” imagination. Why spend two days reading a book when Masterpiece Theatre presents it in two hours?
