I refer to Jos Edmond Zarb’s letter ‘Sheikh Putin of Syria’ (October 3).
It is not right to say that Vladimir Putin is doing in Syria what George W. Bush did in Iraq. In fact, the case in Syria is the other way round because, by supporting Basher al-Assad, Putin will not let Syria become another Iraq or Libya.
Dictator or not, under Assad, Syria was not doing that bad. Christians were always respected. Will it be the same once Assad is removed?
It’s those who are backing the rebels who are on the wrong side of the war. Unfortunately, the situation has become so complicated now that if Assad had to be removed, Syria will turn into another hellhole.
