It is that time of the year when both children and young-at-heart adults have a break from the dreary daily routine and plunge into the carnival spirit.

Regretfully, revellers’ colourful face paint risks being smudged off as showers are expected to wash the islands today and tomorrow. The rain should subside by Monday, when the wind is expected to pick up.

This morning will see the children’s carnival with the participation of various dancing schools followed by a defilé at 5pm, which will include King Carnival, grotesque masks, a band and also special guests from Notting Hill Carnival. Tomorrow, the grand defilé starts from Castille Square at 12.30pm proceeding to Merchants Street, Archbishop Street and then onto St George’s Square. The carnival spectacle starts at 2.30pm.
