Caritas Malta is holding courses in parishes to help families lead a sustainable lifestyle by budgeting.

“Families are encouraged to examine the way they manage their home and life and explore how they can improve the quality of their lives with their existing resources,” a spokesman for Caritas said.

The programme called Bi Ftit Ħsieb... Għażliet Għaqlin għal Stil ta’ Ħajja Aħjar (With Some Thought… Wise Decisions for a Better Lifestyle) consists of nine once-weekly sessions.

The courses are conducted by Home Economists in Action, a group of professional educators.

The talks focus on various themes, such as decision-making and prioritisation, family budgeting, responsible shopping, economic and nutritious meals and snacks, saving water and electricity, choice of leisure time activities and objectives for a sustainable lifestyle.

The courses are part of the wider Sustainable Lifestyles Project, financed by the Malta Community Chest Fund and Caritas.

The courses are open to all types of families, whatever their income or education. To date, courses have been held in Żebbuġ, Ħamrun, Mosta, Tarxien and Marsaxlokk. Other courses will be held in parishes that request them or are willing to host them.
