A 33-year old Ghanaian man was given an 18-month jail term, suspended for three years, and fined €100 for the possession of a fake driving licence.

Yaro Mohammed, who lives in Marsascala, pleaded guilty to possession of the forged document and driving a Hyundai Accent without a valid licence yesterday at about 2am in Marsa.

Magistrate Aaron Bugeja heard that Mr Mohammed had cooperated with the police, had only wanted to drive a car in Malta, had no previous criminal convictions and filed an early guilty plea.

Police Inspector Spiridione Zammit prosecuted.
