A man who told three people he could get them jobs at the Freeport if they paid him over €2,800 each was yesterday given a suspended jail term.

Simon Spiteri, 48, from St Julians, was found guilty of defrauding three people out of €8,385, after he told them he needed the money to help things along and get them jobs at the Freeport.

Magistrate Antonio Mizzi handed down a two-year jail term suspended for four years. He also ordered him to pay the victims back within six months.

Lawyer José Herrera and Veronique Dalli appeared for Mr Spiteri.
