A Libyan man who, in a fit of rage, threw stones at a group of opposing protesters outside the Libyan Embassy in Balzan on March 21, was given a suspended jail term.

Tarek Hussein, 35, residing at St Julians admitted to throwing stones at the group and attacking the police after the opposing group of protesters shouted disparaging remarks at him.

He had told the police at the time he was very tense because he was unable to get in touch with his family in Benghazi due to the extremely bad communication lines in Libya.

Magistrate Consuelo Scerri Herrera took into consideration his clean police record and his cooperation with the police before handing down an eight-month jail term suspended for one year.
