Keeping surgeons abreast of the latest developments ensures Maltese patients receive the most advanced and up-to-date care available, according to Health Parliamentary Secretary Chris Fearne.

He was speaking during a visit to the University of Malta’s Anatomy Laboratory where 28 young surgeons, who work at Mater Dei Hospital, were receiving specialised training in a two-day advanced surgical workshop.

Two foreign experts from Milan and Liverpool were brought to Malta to carry out the training.

Similar workshops have only ever been organised in three other European institutes.

This is a new procedure in teaching, which is the closest to preparing young doctors for a live surgical scenario.
