TVM’s decision to broadcast the Last Night of the Proms direct from the Royal Albert Hall came as a pleasant surprise to many, affording the thousands of Joseph Calleja’s fans in Malta an excellent opportunity to watch him give a superlative performance, from beginning to end.

Calleja did us proud and, no doubt, the huge audience was bowled over – the enthusiastic reception they gave him understandably brought tears to his eyes.

A pity though that TVM left its audience in the dark as to which orchestra and chorus were performing, who was the conductor, the other soloists and the items performed. These they could have easily obtained from the BBC Proms website and superimposed the relevant details on the screen.

Alternatively, they could have engaged a Maltese music critic to provide a commentary. Something to keep in mind for next year’s concert, perhaps?
