After months of hard work and preparation, the Malta Handball Association (MHA) management team lifted the curtains on the new season with the draw of fixtures for the ICT Solutions 2013/14 first division league.
Louis Borg, the MHA president, announced that three new teams have entered this season’s competitions, taking the number of registered clubs to 42.
Around 500 players will be engaged in the different categories with a total of 220 matches scheduled to be played this season.
Clyde Borg Conti, the MHA chief executive officer, said that the new season gets under way tomorrow with the Euro-sport Super Cup finals at the University Sports Hall.
In the senior women’s category, defending champions La Salle ZT Developments take on rivals Aloysians Żmerċ at 2pm.
This will be followed by the men’s Super Cup final between champions La Salle BHS and KO finalists Luxol.
Borg Conti added that the MHA is committed to sustaining the development of local handball with the aim of helping the clubs reach higher standards.
“The association also augurs that the popularity of the game in Malta will continue to grow at both local and international level,” Borg Conti said in a MHA statement.
He thanked the Kunsill Malti għall-iSport, the Maltese Olympic Committee, ICT Solutions and Eurosport, the national team’s technical partners, for their continuous support.
