Paul Sultana was yesterday elected president of the Malta Basketball Association during the governing body’s annual general meeting at the Ta’ Qali pavilion.

A former basketball player and coach, Sultana saw off the challenge of Jean Paul Sammut for the top post in Maltese basketball.

Sultana succeeds Antonio Mizzi who did not seek re-election after 14 years at the helm of the MBA.

In yesterday’s other elections for seats on the President’s Council for the next two years, Trevor Degiorgio was voted in as the association’s Deputy President while Anthony Camilleri, Ivan Micallef, Ottavio Terribile and David Schembri will serve as MBA vice-presidents.

Secretary general Joseph Muscat and treasurer Noel Muscat, who were uncontested, are the two other members in the council.

Meanwhile, the Malta Basketball Association’s season comes to a close tomorrow when the men’s Detur Super Cup final is played. Newly-crowned champions Athleta A-Z Electronics take on Siġġiewi at the Ta’ Qali Pavilion, starting at 4.30 p.m.
