A Sudanese woman was yesterday charged with biting the hand of a police sergeant during an incident at the Ħal Far detention centre after she refused to take her medication.

The incident happened on June 22 as Sergeant Marco Mifsud arrived to investigate after receiving a call from concerned social workers that the woman, Roda Abdalla Owei, 23, was refusing to take her pills.

The accused lashed out and sunk her teeth into his right hand, police sources said.

She was also charged with slightly injuring Constable Elliott Magro. She pleaded not guilty and was remanded in custody at the prison.
