Students at Mcast will be able to use the business incubation centre run by Malta Enterprise at Kordin to set up innovative companies.

The students will be encouraged to develop the projects that form part of their studies into business ventures and the incubation centre will provide the foundations for a smooth transition between school and the work environment.

The arrangement is possible after Mcast and Malta Enterprise signed a memorandum of understanding yesterday.

Mcast chairman Silvio Debono said this development was an important step to foster greater cooperation between the college, which caters for some 6,000 students, and the industrial world.

Malta Enterprise chairman Mario Vella said the signing of the agreement showed that it was possible to get things done quickly without excessive bureaucracy. Talks on the initiative were wrapped up in three months.

Education Minister Evarist Bartolo insisted it was government’s aim to foster entrepreneurship.

He said it was important that students and budding entrepreneurs learnt how to fail so as not to fear risk.
