Only one case on human trafficking has ever been decided upon at the European Court of Human Rights, according to Giovanni Bonello, a former judge at the court.
He was addressing a recent ‘Model Council of Europe’ simulation at Europe House, Valletta, the first such event held by the European Studies Organisation.
Dr Bonello spoke about human trafficking, the way it is increasing in Europe, how difficult it is to track down, and the need for more awareness on the topic.
Over 40 European studies, international relations and law students took part in the activity. They gave a two-minute speech presenting a country’s position on human trafficking, which was followed by the presentation, amendment and voting on a resolution on the topic.
