A group of 20 students from the Malta College of Arts, Science and Technology collected over 136 kilos of waste from the Madliena Tower area in two hours.

The event was organised by Nature Trust (Malta) and supported by the Malta Tourism Authority. Waste collected included metal, ceramics, paper wrappers and a large number of plastic bottles.

The NGO has been organising various clean-ups this year in a number of localities of ecological importance.

It is appealing to the authorities to deploy green wardens to ensure that those leaving litter behind are apprehended and fined.

During the 2012 clean-ups, waste collected from Pembroke alone exceeded 1,000 kilos.
