Economy Minister Chris Cardona yesterday called for a change in attitudes and business practice to alleviate the ongoing struggle women face when seeking leadership roles.

“We have powerful symbols, such as a female President, but we all know that there is more work to do on the ground.

“ There is no denying how poor our numbers are,” Dr Cardona said at the launch of new NGO Women Directors in Malta (WDM).

The NGO said it would work to help women make necessary connections, get to board level or take on non-executive board roles in all sectors.

The number of female undergraduates coming out of University is evidence that there is no shortage of female talent in Malta, Dr Cardona said.

“There are more female undergraduates than men. And there are business leaders who very much impress, there just aren’t enough of them.”
