Notwithstanding all its defects, the Nationalist Party has always made history over the years, including recently when the four leadership election contenders – the first time ever – demonstrated genuine evident team spirit. It was indeed a breath of fresh air.

In the national interest, Mario de Marco spoke of the need – at this point in time – not to select but to unite and kick-start the renewal of the PN to present to the people a decently strong Opposition as soon as possible. This is particularly urgent given the unpromising first indications of this Administration in different ways, including the democratic aspect.

Simon Busuttil – the man who attracted the biggest amount of votes even at the national level – was from the outset categorical when he referred to his challenging proposal of having a strong, united leadership team.

The role that can be played by de Marco, Francis Zammit Dimech and Raymond Bugeja – among others – is essential to form a formidable winning team.

The PN councillors’ final mandate to Busuttil to start this reinvigorating process was not only in the PN’s interest but, primarily, in the interest of the whole country.
