A collection of expressionist paintings by Catrina Louisa Attard will be launched on Friday at the Cavalieri Hotel, St Julian’s. The exhibition is entitled ‘Ethos – A Burst of Colour’ and will be inaugurated by Mark Vella, head of Valletta Fund Management.

The artist is inspired by the sea, sea creatures and fossils embedded in reefs and corals. Her expression is the result of visions and fantasies from a romantic dream-world with an affinity to Redon’s.

She also loves Islamic, oriental, celtic and abstract art.

Attard said: “I am driven by observing nature, geology, the sea, all around me but close up, in detail.”

Attard was born in Chalfont St Giles, Buckinghamshire, and attended Southend College of Art, Essex. She has been living in Malta since 1986. Her works are found in private collections in the US and UK, among others.

The exhibition will be open between Saturday and May 17.
