Tarxien Rainbows vs Birkirkara (today at 4pm, Hibernians Stadium).

Birkirkara and Tarxien Rain-bows need the three points for contrasting reasons.

While the Stripes must win to keep leaders Hibernians in sight as well as to retain the edge over Valletta in the race for second spot, basement team Tarxien are desperate for points to improve their flagging survival hopes.

Paul Zammit, the Birkirkara coach, has no selection problems.

Not the same can be said of Clive Mizzi as the Tarxien Rainbows coach has several players missing.

Mouhamed Soly starts a three-match ban after the Senegalese striker lashed out at Balzan defender Clive Brincat at the end of his side’s 3-2 defeat last month.

Spanish wing-back Manuel Acevedo Bonaque is also out as he has yet to complete a two-match suspension.

Midfielder Carlos Menendez Hevia is expected to be out for another two weeks with a tendon problem while defender Ryan Sammut’s season is over with a cruciate injury.

Goalkeeper Jonathan Debono is also sidelined.

Previous results: Birkirkara vs Tarxien 1-3, 2-1.

Qormi vs Sliema Wanderers (today at 6pm, Hibernians Stadium).

Qormi are still meandering in perilous waters as they are only one point clear of the drop zone.

Sliema Wanderers have all but dispelled their relegation fears as their 3-2 win over Żebbuġ Rangers lifted them to sixth on 21 points.

Nigerian midfielder Uzeh Edafe is available for Qormi after missing the goalless draw against Floriana through suspension.

Sliema coach Stephen Azzopardi has two key players missing as Mark Scerri and Brazilian Pedrinho are suspended but, on the plus side, Michael Mifsud and Trevor Cilia are back after seeing out their one-match ban.

Italian defender Stefano Bianciardi is in line to earn a squad recall after recovering from a fractured arm but young striker Aidan Friggieri is doubtful.

Previous results: Qormi vs Sliema 0-0, 1-3.

Żebbuġ Rangers vs Floriana (today at 4pm, National Stadium).

This clash pits together two respected Italian coaches against each other as Żebbuġ boss Alfonso Greco comes up against Giovanni Tedesco, of Floriana.

Floriana have their eyes trained on a three-point haul after surrendering fourth place to Balzan following goalless draws against Birkirkara and Qormi.

Steve Bonnici, Sacha Borg and Andrè Scicluna will miss out for Greens due to injuries but Tedesco has no other selection problems.

Rangers have slipped back into the bottom two after four successive defeats.

Greco must make at least three changes from the loss to Sliema Wanderers as captain Mattias Muchardi Thomas Paris and Yessous Camilleri are suspended.

Another potential absentee for Żebbuġ is Melvin Farrugia who is nursing an injury.

Previous results: Floriana vs Żebbuġ Rangers 3-3, 4-1.
