Premier League club Birkirkara yesterday lodged a protest with the Malta FA offices against the result of Sunday’s match against Tarxien Rainbows which the latter surprisingly won 3-2.

It was the Stripes’ fourth defeat from ten matches this season.

In their formal complaint, Birkirkara are contending that the referee, Adrian Azzopardi, had committed a technical error in allowing Tarxien’s third goal to stand, saying two balls were on the field of play simultaneously in the action that led to Rodrigo Andreis Galvao heading in past goalkeeper Jorge Mora to make it 3-2.

This is the second protest in the Premier League this season.

In August, the Malta FA Protests Board ruled in favour of Balzan Youths in a case against Ħamrun Spartans who lost the points on the table after a 3-1 victory at the National Stadium for fielding an ineligible player.
