Valletta will be adding up to their foreigners’ line-up for the new season after agreeing terms with Gambia player Aziz Corry Nyang.

The 29-year-old striker started a trial with Mark Miller’s squad just after the Citizens’ elimination from the Europa League qualifiers to Belarus side FC Minsk last month.

However, with Valletta having no warm-up matches on schedule where Miller could properly assess the trialist in action, Nyang was granted permission to play for Floriana in the semi-finals of the pre-season tournament AME Cup.

Nyang lived up to his billing as he produced an impressive display, also netting a goal for the Greens in their 2-0 win over Balzan at the Sirens Ground on Thursday.

His fine showing, albeit with the colours of City’s neighbouring rivals, seems to have convinced Valletta to move quickly and offer Nyang a contract.

The 6ft 1in (1.85m) Gambian, who had a two-year spell with Swedish side Djurgarden earlier in his career, has already agreed terms with Valletta and is ex-pected to put pen to paper on a one-year contract this week.

Nyang also made 14 ap-pearances for his national team, scoring three goals. He will join his fellow compatriot Barry Hamza who also agreed terms with Valletta this summer.

Meanwhile, it was also revealed that Valletta are also running the rule on Tunisian midfielder Karim Nasti.

The 31-year-old was due to conduct his first training session with Valletta yesterday.

Valletta now have seven overseas players under contract, namely Pietro Marino (Italian), Nyang and Hamzy (both Gambia), James Obaje (Nigeria), Jason Vande-lannoite (Belgium), Denni and Romulo Antoneli ( both Brazil).

The newly-approved MFA rules for the 2013-14 season stipulate that Premier League clubs can have five non-Maltese players on the pitch at one time while a sixth foreigner can be listed among the substitutes in the same match.
