In a recent report on a poll conducted by Misco last November, EC President Ought To Be Directly Elected, the views of the Maltese were reflected in percentage terms only.

I would suggest that when conclusions of any survey are published they should always carry the total number of respondents as well as what percentage these respondents represent of the total number of Maltese eligible to participate in such a questionnaire.

Not to provide such crucial information fails to lend credibility to what I find to be misleading and sensationalised claims as supplied via the conclusions of this and other polls undertaken by Misco.

I would argue that the usually very low number of respondents to these polls represents merely a straw poll of public opinion. Yet somehow they are assumed to be the views of most of the Maltese or at least a misleadingly high percentage of them.

Let us have transparency when issuing the findings of such surveys, as they are currently construed in such a way as to provide readers with misleading and disproportionate claims.
