The man who construction magnate Angelo Xuereb said had a conflict of interest in the adjudication of a €2 million tender yesterday filed a judicial protest demanding such allegations should stop.
Chris Delia said that Mr Xuereb made the allegations in court when testifying in the case in which he was asking the courts to halt the cancellation of the tender issued by Heritage Malta pending police investigation into threatening text messages Mr Xuereb received. The messages referred to both the contract and the New Year’s Day double fatal stabbing in Sliema when Mr Xuereb’s son-in-law died.
The tender is for the construction of a visitors’ centre and restoration works at St Paul’s catacombs in Rabat.
Mr Delia said Mr Xuereb insinuated that he was the person who had sent the SMS to him.
In his testimony, Mr Xuereb said that Mr Delia, a member of the adjudication board for Heritage Malta, had publicly bad-mouthed his company.
Mr Xuereb also said he suspected that the SMS could have originated from someone at Heritage Malta.
Lawyer Roberto Montalto signed the protest.
