Dastardly and Muttley In Their Flying Machines was a cartoon produced by Hanna-Barbera Productions and first aired in 1969.

Going to Valletta one just cannot help but think how useful it would be if an emergency link could be wired to these two intrepid saviours.

Pigeons have invaded our capital city; these rats with wings have become a pest.

The brilliant idea of allowing all the cafes to have al fresco tables is great but does one really want to share food with these dirty germ-infested species?

They are dive bombing onto tables and stealing food. I have even seen them flying inside one of the eating establishments; so the issue of hygiene tends to eventually go out of the door, so to speak.

Many cities around the world have taken steps to eliminate this growing problem in a humane way. The public of course can do their bit to assist by stopping feeding these birds.

I have nothing against pigeon fanciers who look after their prized birds and strictly control them. However those that are wild and seemingly increasing in numbers by the minute must be eliminated. Apart from spreading serious diseases their mess is disgusting and so difficult to remove.

I implore Valletta’s local council to take steps in sorting this problem out before it is too late.
