The Labour Party yesterday requested a warrant to stop Transport Malta removing billboards bearing its political messages, in breach of its constitutional right.

The application was filed by party president Stefano Zrinzo Azzopardi and executive secretary Lydia Abela.

The party said that the billboards had not been placed on roads, pavements or property belonging to Transport Malta, and their removal would constitute a violation of the party’s fundamental right to convey its political message to the public, as enshrined in the Constitution and the European Convention.

The party requested the court to stop Transport Malta removing, moving or taking possession of its billboards.

It said Transport Malta had already removed various political billboards put up by the Labour Party in April and that “it was clear” that its billboards will be removed again.

Lawyers Pawlu and Alessandro Lia signed the application.
