Like many ex-pat readers of the Times of Malta I was educated during the 1960s at that greatest and much lamented institution, the British single sex grammar school.
I am consequently, in spite of all my efforts, the possessor of an excellent education, so when I see glaring and unfortunate errors printed in this newspaper I feel it necessary to point them out.
In his Talking Point ‘Another lost opportunity’ (September 2), Fr Mark Montebello, who, I am sure, is a well-educated gentleman, writes of a “stoned silence”. One can only hope he intended the lack of response to be “stony” and not high on drugs or other illegal substances as the word “stoned” suggests. Best wishes from Pedantry Central.
