Last July I was referred to the Emergency Department at Mater Dei Hospital as I had a great pain in my right knee and was unable to walk. After waiting for nearly four hours, I was seen by an Indian doctor, who although seemingly overworked, was very courteous.
X-rays were taken and it was established that I had problems with the meniscus, a piece of cartilage between the bones that comprise one’s knee.
Medicines were prescribed, including painkillers. I was told that my case would be referred to a consultant and I would be informed about an appointment by post. Although still in terrible pain and unable to walk unless helped by others I was released from hospital.
Through friends I managed to arrange for a private consultation and following this it was decided that surgery was urgently needed. This was performed, and thanks to the surgeon I am now free of pain and able to walk. To date, however, my appointment at Mater Dei Hospital has not arrived.
An explanation for this tardiness from the Health Department would be greatly appreciated.
