The Law Students Society has welcomed stiffer entry requirements for the law course, saying they had become “far too lax”.

The University of Malta Senate has authorised changes as from 2014, when applicants would need passes in both English and Maltese.

“Students should not suffer the shortcomings of the system, the lack of human resources and the current lack of seating capacity in lecture theatres at the University.

“Conversely, the law course ought to reflect its prestigious past and, as a result, the need for such a reform was highly felt,” the society said.

It called for more discussions to make further improvements.
