People can take a step back to the time of air raids, curfews and war shelters via two current exhibitions about Malta and World War II.

War enthusiasts can admire a private collection of original war artefacts at the Santa Marija band club in Mqabba.

The items on display include an original RAF helmet and flight suit, an RAF compass, a selection of army gear and war documents.

This exhibition also includes a number of modern portraits of Winston Churchill and Adolf Hitler.

Meanwhile, a second collection of wartime photographs is on display at the La Stella Levantina band club in Attard. Organised with the local council, the exhibition revolves around the idea that every bomb has a story.

Both exhibitions have been commissioned to mark the 70th anniversary since the Santa Marija convoy – or Operation Pedestal as it had been officially code-named – entered the Grand Harbour with supplies, saving Malta from near surrender after a long siege.

The exhibition at the Santa Marija band club is open between 7 p.m. and midnight today while the display of photos at the La Stella Levantina club will be open between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m.
