The statue of St George, corner with Library and St George’s streets, was vandalised between Saturday and Sunday last. His arm, carrying a lance, was chopped off and thrown into a nearby house.

This statue was carved in stone by the late famous Gozitan sculptor Ġużepp Agius (Il-Brejbex) in 1925 and replaced an older statue of St George in 1929. In 2011, the statue was ably restored to its old splendour by artist Frankie Cassar.

As usual no one saw or heard anything.
