Further to Joseph Busuttil’s letter titled ‘National disgrace’ (July 13), I happened to be at Malta’s international airport last week where I needed to use the public lavatory at the departure lounge.
Three of the four men’s toilets were out of order, while the other one was occupied. The door locks were broken and the flushing systems did not work. One of the sink faucets was also broken. Someone was heard saying that it is the tourists who cause the damage. So I visited the men’s toilets in the arrivals lounge and I found out that they all worked.
Next, I visited the cafeteria at the Cirkewwa Ferry Terminal where I waited patiently for some time before the lady behind the counter deigned to raise herself from the table where she was sitting, to give me service.
I ordered a bottle of water and she threw the change at me on the counter as if I was unwanted and unneeded. I bluntly asked her if she was unhappy with her job, and she replied rudely that I ought to mind my own business.
Then, returning to Malta from Gozo I decided to check out the men’s toilets at the Mgarr Ferry Terminal, and sure enoughthe one I entered into had notoilet paper.
