I wish to write again on the bridge in Old College Street, Sliema, since my previous pleas, in various letters to The Times, seem to have fallen on deaf ears.

The Times had written about the state of the bridge (August 25, 2011) after some weathered stone fell off. This has happened several times since.

Now things have got worse, as heavy trucks still pass over the bridge despite the warning sign that has been put up.

You find wardens everywhere except in our area, it seems.

The Sliema local council are trumpeting the fact that they are cleaning up Sliema. This is all well and good but why has Old College Street not been included?

Paul Gonzi had replied to my complaint, sent by e-mail on “mychoice.pn”, saying he had passed it on to Minister Austin Gatt (April, 22) but, to date, no action has been taken.

Don’t the authorities realise that the Old College Street bridge, besides having a historical value, is in a very dangerous state, especially the side walls?

I have passed a number of photographs to one of the candidates contesting this year’s local council election and he promised me it would be repaired immediately. However, once again, nothing has been done.

This issue must be considered as very urgent before a serious accident will certainly happen when the wall gives way.
