I sympathise with Margaret Bianchi’s heartfelt appeal (Talking Point, January 28) on the way Maltese society seems to be choosing the slippery path to increasing secularisation and liberalisation of our traditional sexual mores, turning away from the sound counsel of our moral leaders.

As she concedes, there is no holding back the tide, however, like her, I think it is a sad outlook when one sees a political leader suddenly proclaim that, if elected, he would legislate for same-sex marriages, adoption of children by same-sex couples and heaven knows what else and all this for a handful of votes.

The enormities that such measures can bring in their wake are not considered, as if they do not exist or are not worth debating.

The correspondent has cited one example that is being contested in the Maltese courts. How much longer do we have to wait before we see the emergence of some figure of the necessary political and moral calibre standing up for principles that are both Christian and democratic?
