The victim of a stabbing yesterday did not appear in court to testify against his alleged attacker.

Dane Williams, who was allegedly stabbed by Franky Cini, 30, from Żebbuġ in Gozo on Saturday in Mistra Bay, was informed on Monday he would testify the following day.

At that sitting, when he was wearing a blue hospital disposable clothing, he told Police Inspector Michael Mallia that he would be going to the British High Commission because he had no passport. He took a taxi to the High Commission offices in Ta’ Xbiex.

Defence lawyer Steve Tonna Lowell insisted his client should not be held under arrest simply because a witness did not turn up to testify.

Magistrate Claire Stafrace Zammit decided to put off the case to this morning, giving the police time to locate Mr Williams and make sure he turned up to testify.
