Form 3 biology students at St Monica School, Birkirkara, recently visited the Plant Biotechnology Centre in Lija to donate 100 Aleppo pine seedlings. A tree was then planted in Ta’ Qali in honour of the school.

The students have been involved in a project this year which aimed to enhance awareness of endemic and indigenous trees in Malta.

Last September, students collected seeds from the Sandarac gum tree in Wied Għollieqa and planted them in 260 pots along with Aleppo pine seeds last Otcober.

The school also assembled two small, wooden greenhouses, in which they placed all the plants. The plants were monitored and watered regularly by the students.
