I’ve been reading the interview with outgoing general manager of St James Cavalier Chris Gatt, ‘Art in Malta is just a hobby’, (The Sunday Times of Malta, January 12) and his negative comments on the local art scene.

If, unlike in Malta, the contemporary art scene is so successful overseas, it’s because overseas administrations know how to create an exciting hype surrounding their artists, not like Gatt who refers to Malta’s as mere “hobbyists”.

I believe St James Cavalier deserves better management.
